If Adam originated from Saddleworth as well then there is a possible connection to the family of the Peninsular War John WHITWORTH. There are no IGI records of an Adam WHITWORTH born in Saddleworth at the right time.

This James WHITWORTH is the right age to be the father of John WHITWORTH, the
Peninsular War hero. If this is James the clockmaker, father of John then the
family legend is true. However, data from the christening of one of John
Whitworth’s siblings at Old St Georges Church Stalybridge suggests that the
father of James the clockmaker was also called James not Adam. James
Whitworth Snr's Will also confirms this.
