This
information has been derived from the Hampshire Burial Index and from
the I.G.I. and is borne out by William Hewitt's Will dated 1714. A précis
of the Will is as follows:-
He left his beloved wife Mary all his leasehold estate in the parish
of Botley with all the lands and appurtenances thereunto belonging.
He left his son John Hewett fifty pounds to be paid him at the age of
twenty-one, his daughter Betty Hewett one hundred and fifty pounds to
be paid her at the age of twenty-one or day of marriage, his daughter
Anne one hundred and fifty pounds to be paid at the age of twenty-one
and his daughter White (Mary) twenty shillings. (N.B. Mary White
was my ancestor). He gave his wife the walnut chest of drawers,
table and furniture in his room and a kettle and pot and some drinking
vessels and some chairs for furnishing of a room and some dishes of
pewter. All the rest of his goods and chattels after his debts
had been paid he gave to his well-beloved son William Hewett, whom he
nominated as his sole Executor. William signed his name and the
Will was witnessed by Anne Howard, H.Bayliss and Robert White.
An inventory of his possessions was taken and appraised by John
Missing, James Stares and Robert White and valued at £702.8s.
