Will
of
Robert
Houghton
of Tichfield 1625
Memoranded that on the xx th day of April AD 1625 Robert Houghton of the
Parish of Titchfield in the County of Southton being sick in bodie butt
in good xxx rememberance thanks be given unto Almighty God did make
ordain this his last Will and Testament xxx or by word of mouth in
manner and form following and that is to say first hee bequeathed his
soull unto the hande of Almighty God his maker and to Jesus Christ his
redeemer by whose death and passion hee xxx to be found he willed is
bodie to be buried in the said churchyard of Titchfield near the place
where his father was buried, Item hee gave unto the Trennytie Church of
Winchester Viiis. Item hee
gave unto the Parish Church of Titchfield VIIIs.
Item hee gave unto the poore people of the forsaid parish of
Titchfield XIs. Item hee gave and bequeathed unto John Houghton his sonn
two hundred and fifty pounds of current money to be paid unto his said
son when he should come to the age of XXI years but his will was that
one hundred pounds of the foresaid two hundred and fifty pounds should
be put fourth to use for to increasse the stocke of his said sonn at the
discretion of his wiffe and overseers
should have the use of the residue of the said legacie to breed
him up at school and other education fit for a child of his degree to
learn. Item he gave unto his
said sonn nine silver spoons whereof eight are of one making the other
to be the spoone that his brother

gave him at the time
of his marriage. Item his
will was that John Houghton should have his leasse of his farm with
the years yet to com yet unexpired xxx by the said leasse and his wife
to have the xxx from
Michellmas next unto the end term of the said leasse and his wife to
have the xx of the said farme from this tyme till Michellmas next as
aforesaid. And also his will
was his said brother John should have the use of all the land valued and
appointed xxx to be sowne Micklemas next from this time forward to make
it ready for the xxx upon the condition that his said brother should
promise to give or pay unto his wife for the leasse and other charges
that he had layd out about the farm the full some of one hundred pounds
of current monny. Item
further his will was that his said brother

the farm. Item hee gave and
bequeathed unto Thomas Houghton, Wm Houghton, Edward Houghton, Dorothy
Houghton, Joan Houghton, Marie Houghton, Sibbell Houghton, Jane
Houghton, Sarah Houghton, Ann H the sons and daughters of Richard
Houghton his brother to each and every one of them XXs apiece.
Item hee gave unto

further his will was that if it happens that his forsaid sonn John
Houghton do depart this life before hee come to the age of one and
twenty years: that then his
wife should have one hundred pound of his legacie by him before
bequeathed unto hym: Item
the other hundred and fifty pound to remayne amongst his brother xxx
children then living. Item
hee made and ordained

full and executrix to this his last will and hopeed that shee would have
care to performe the farme. And
