COGGER Blacksmith of Brixton Causeway 1795/98
In the name of God Amen I John
Cogger of Brixton Causeway in the Parish of Saint Mary Lambeth in
the County of Surrey being of sound mind memory and understanding and
considering the uncertainty of this life and the certainty of death do
hereby make publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner
and form following that is to say first my will and desire is to be
decently interred at Lambeth in the said county agreeable to the wish of
my sister Sarah
Cogger and after all my just debts funeral expenses and the probate
of this my last Will are paid and discharged all the rest residue and sum
remainder of my Estate and Effects of what nature or kindsoever wherewith
it has pleased God to bless me with I give devise and bequeath in manner
and form following (that is to say) I give devise and bequeath unto my
beloved sister Sarah
Cogger now living with me and John
Porter of Brixton Place and James
Byas of Stockwell in the said Parish and County In trust in manner
and form following that they enjoy the estate for the purpose of this my
last will and testament viz that my said beloved sister Sarah Cogger and my two beloved daughters and my
dearly beloved sister shall have the (sic) all the benefits arising from
all that I am possessed of share and share alike to be equally divided and
in case my dearly beloved daughters Elizabeth
and Mary Ann
should die before the decease of my beloved sister Sarah
I give devise and bequeath the same unto my said beloved sister but if one
of my said daughters should die either Elizabeth or Mary
Ann my whole and sole will is that the survivors shall have all the
profits and benefits arising from my Trade between my said Sister and such
surviving daughter as may be living at the time of my making this bequest
but if neither daughter or sister shall be living at the time of my
decease my wish and desire is that my nephew Thomas
Cross shall have the preference? of the house shop and business he
taking and paying for everything at a fair valuation but if it should not
be in his power to purchase the said stock my will is that my executors in
trust dispose of the same to the best advantage of my surviving heirs And
lastly if either of my two daughters or my sister should die without an
heir my will is that the heirs of my brothers and sisters children shall
have the same. Dated this 20th
