Notes on William COLE

The big mystery about William COLE is what his relationship was with the Coggers.  He was certainly rich; the land he bequeathed to Mercy Crossingham  was developed into the Tulse Hill estate.   Several generations of Coles had lived in Bleak Hall which was adjacent to Brixton Causeway where the Coggers had been blacksmiths since around 1750; so the Coggers could have just been neighbours who struck lucky.
William COLE also had land at Plumstead.  He left money to the church there.  What is intriguing is there is also a "Bleak Hill" there.  Did William Cole move from Kent?

Update to the above added 12 January 2010
Mystery solved thanks to David Wright who has very kindly sent me copies of documents relating to the Cogger family. William Cole was connected to the Cogger family and these links have now been added to the website. Follow the link on William Cole's immediate family page to see the connection. (In summary William Cole's aunt Mercy married Matthew Hutchins and their daughter Hannah married John Cogger). Scans of the documents which establish the link can be viewed and downloaded from Picasa using the link below.
